About this product
The EZ 8000 is an adjustable bed rail that extends along the side of the bed, giving a long handhold for getting in and out.
A long rail rather than a handle
Getting out of bed is a sequence: rolling onto your side, pushing up to sitting, shuffling to the edge, then standing. A short grab handle helps with one of those. A long adjustable rail covers all of them, so the person keeps hold the whole way rather than releasing and reaching again partway through, which is where balance goes.
Being adjustable means it can be set to the bed and to where the person actually needs it, rather than fitting where the bracket happens to land.
Fitting it safely
Any bed rail has to suit the bed and the mattress together. Gaps between the rail and the mattress, or between the bars, can trap a limb, a head or a neck. That risk is highest for someone confused, very frail, or unable to free themselves.
If that describes the person, tell us before ordering. A rail may still be right, but it should be a considered decision, and a fall mat beside the bed is sometimes the safer answer.
Adding a thicker mattress later changes the gaps and the effective rail height, so the fit should be re-checked if the bed changes.
Maintenance
Check the fixings when the rail is installed and re-check them periodically. A rail that has worked loose is more dangerous than none at all, because it is trusted without thinking.
