A waterproof cover that protects a wheelchair cushion from urine, spills and moisture, while still letting the cushion do its job.
Why a cushion needs protecting
A pressure-relieving cushion is an expensive and often prescribed piece of equipment. Fluid reaching the foam or gel inside shortens its life considerably, and a cushion that has absorbed moisture cannot be properly cleaned.
An incontinence cover keeps fluid out of the cushion and can be removed, washed and put back, which means the cushion itself stays intact.
It must not stop the cushion working
This is the part people get wrong. A cover that is too tight, or made of stiff material, stops the cushion surface deforming under the person.
That matters because pressure relief depends on the body sinking into the cushion so weight spreads across a wider area. Stretch a rigid sheet over the top and you have a firm flat surface again, and the protection you paid for is gone. This is sometimes called hammocking, and it is a real cause of pressure damage.
Our covers are sized to the cushion so they stay slack enough to let the surface work.
Sizing
Covers are sized by the cushion's width and depth in inches, matching the cushion itself. Check the size printed on the cushion or its existing cover, and order the same.
Available sizes: 16x16, 16x18, 16x20, 18x18, 18x20, 19x18, 20x18, 20x20, 20x22, 22x20 and 22x22. A matching back cover is available in 18x20.
If the cushion has no label, measure the cushion itself across the front edge for width and front to back for depth.
Worth having two
One on the chair and one in the wash. A cover that has to be washed and dried before the person can sit comfortably again is a cover that gets skipped.
