Features & Benefits

Why this one

Grips on ice

A metal spike that bites into ice and packed snow, where a rubber tip simply skids.

Flips away indoors

Flips down outdoors and folds up against the shaft indoors, so it does not mark floors.

The falls that matter

Winter falls are the ones that change lives, and a broken hip in January starts a long chain.

Cheapest safety you can buy

A few dollars, fits in a pocket, and there is little else in the shop with that ratio of cost to consequence.

Check the rubber too

Works with your existing rubber tip rather than replacing it, so check that tip is not worn smooth.

Sized to your cane

Sized to the shaft, so bring the cane in or tell us the diameter. A loose one is no use.

About this product

An ice grip tip that fits over the end of a cane, with a spike that flips down for ice and folds away indoors.

The most useful five minutes of the winter

A rubber cane tip grips well on dry pavement and poorly on ice. In an Ontario winter that is most of December to March, and a cane that skids is worse than no cane at all, because the person is already committing their weight to it.

An ice grip adds a small metal spike that bites into ice and packed snow. It flips down when you go out and folds up against the shaft when you come indoors, so you are not walking across someone's hardwood floor on a spike.

Why we push this one

Winter falls are the ones that change lives. A broken hip in January is the start of a long chain that often ends with someone not returning to their own home.

This is a few dollars and it fits in a pocket. There are very few things in the shop with that ratio of cost to consequence.

Remember to flip it up

Indoors, a spike left down is a slip hazard on tile and hardwood, and it will mark floors. Getting into the habit of flipping it at the door takes a week.

Check your rubber tip too

The ice grip works with the existing tip rather than replacing it. If that rubber is worn smooth, replace it at the same time. A worn tip is one of the commonest causes of slips year round, and replacement tips cost very little.

Fitting

Bring the cane in, or tell us the shaft diameter. These are sized, and one that is loose is no use.
