Batteries
Replacement gel and AGM batteries for scooters, powered chairs, lifts and beds, matched to your equipment.
Replacement batteries for mobility scooters, powered wheelchairs, patient lifts, stairlifts and homecare beds.
Batteries are a consumable, not a fault
Every sealed battery loses capacity with age and with each deep discharge. A scooter that used to manage a return trip to the shops and now struggles is almost always telling you the batteries are worn, not that the scooter is failing.
Most people replace them every two to three years with regular use. Replacing them is far cheaper than replacing the equipment, and it usually restores the range completely.
Getting the right one
Two numbers matter, and both are printed on the battery already fitted.
Voltage must match exactly. Almost everything here is 12V, and most scooters and powered chairs use two 12V batteries wired together to make 24V.
Amp hours (Ah) is the capacity, the figure after the voltage. A 12V-50 holds far more than a 12V-12 and will go considerably further on a charge. Fitting a higher capacity is sometimes possible, but only if it physically fits the battery box and the charger suits it.
Check the terminal type as well. Flat top, standard top and threaded terminals are not interchangeable, and the cable will not connect properly to the wrong one.
Gel or AGM
Both are sealed, so neither leaks and both are accepted for air travel in most cases.
Gel batteries handle deep discharge better and last longer if the equipment is used hard and recharged daily. AGM batteries generally cost less and recharge faster. If the existing batteries are gel, replace with gel.
Always replace in pairs
Where equipment uses two batteries, replace both at once even if only one has failed. A new battery paired with a tired one is dragged down to the weaker one's performance, and you lose the benefit you paid for.
Getting more life out of them
Charge after every use rather than waiting until the battery is flat, and keep equipment on charge when stored. Batteries left flat for weeks may never recover. Cold shortens range too, so a scooter stored in an unheated garage through an Ontario winter will disappoint in February.
Not sure which you need?
